SUCCESS STORIES

Participant Testimonials & Success Stories

We take pride in the work we do and why we do it. Hear from some past and current participants of our programs at NSN.

Kelly

Kelly moved into our Group Home in June. It was a very difficult transition for her. She felt scared and alone as she was new to a group home setting and the community of La Ronge.

In the short time Kelly has been with NSN, we’ve worked with her and various healthcare professionals to make remarkable strides in her health and wellbeing. She has not only started making friends with other participants in our Day Program but has also bonded with some of the staff at the Group Home. Everyday we see her coming out of her shell and becoming comfortable and at ease in her new home.

Kelly has also discovered and opened up about her likes and dislikes in ways she’s never imagined. She loves music, colouring, and always creates fun crafts at our Day Program. Alongside these passions, Kelly has blossomed into a helpful hand in the kitchen, often assisting the NSN staff with baking delicious treats. Her birthday celebration at our Day Program was a heartwarming moment, filled with laughter and joy as she received gifts from her roommates and enjoyed her ice cream cake. Halloween was another highlight, with Kelly creating her own costume and eagerly participating in trick-or-treating.

Kelly has found a true sense of belonging and happiness at NSN, and we couldn’t be more proud of her and our team.

Ivor

Meet Ivor.

Ivor has been with us since 2020 and joined our Harm Reduction program in 2021. When asked what about his highlights of our Harm Reduction program he said:

  • he likes that we securely store his items
  • we teach and help him with budgeting
  • his personal improvement in managing his symptoms for fewer behavioural incidents.
  • becoming more responsible through learning how to cook, clean, various chores, and learning new skills

Overall, Ivor’s goals include transitioning into SILP and reducing his tobacco use. He’s said he didn’t know where he would be without NSN, and wouldn’t change a thing about what we do.

Tyson Ratt

Tyson joined our Supported Independent Living Program (SILP) in November 2023 and has made some incredible strides toward independent living.

After withdrawing last fall, Tyson set a goal to complete his Grade 12 education, which he is now proudly attending. He has improved his budgeting and listening skills and has become a new parent to his son this past summer. Some of his most significant day-to-day highlights have been waking up to his baby and going to school each day to better himself for his son.

“Life has been easier because of the support I have with NSN; they helped me understand that accepting and asking for help is okay. Before I was with NSN, I was homeless and then moved into SILP housing. I’m now looking at getting my own place to live with my girlfriend and baby boy.”

Stories like Tyson’s motivate us to come to work every day and make changes in people’s lives.
